It's summer, and I'm back!

One day, I shall have this whole blog-on-a-normal-schedule thing down.
I just seem to have trouble figuring out to make it part of my daily routine right now.
I say the summer is the perfect time to practice.

I actually have a lot I want to blog about and get out there, but we'll just play a game of catch up for the time being.

If you had asked my just 2 weeks ago, I would have told you that this summer, I would be solely in Muncie. I was supposed to be design editor for our Ball State Daily News student-run newspaper (which I will often refer to as 'the DN'), continue my internship at The Star Press, Muncie's local paper, and take a few classes.

But one phone call shook up my plans.

Now, my time is going to be divided between Muncie and Indy. Half away, half at home.

The Indianapolis Star called me during finals week, asking me to step in to fill a Pulliam Fellowship position that somebody had dropped. The Pulliam Fellowship. Now that was something I couldn't turn down.

So while I had to back out of continuing at The Star Press, I am maintaining my position as design editor for the university paper. And while going back and forth each week will be a lot of gas — a lot of gas — I will be, let's just say, very well paid altogether.

For now, I am living just in Muncie working for the DN and The Star Press, until I start working in Indy in June.

So what can you expect me to share with the blogosphere this summer?

• Lessons I learn while getting my first taste of living on my own, outside of the dorms.
• New experiences of working in a real city and a bigger internship.
• Inspiration I find for design and DIY projects and cooking and...anything.
• My own DIY projects and planning as I prepare to move into an apartment this fall.
• Weekly themed posts floating out there from other lovely bloggers.
• Random tidbits of the rest of my life, from the music I'm listening to, new goals and dreams, or just my latest rants and raves.

So here's to being a better — and hopefully more interesting! — blogger :)

A day like today

Despite the fact that it is the end of the semester, when projects and papers seem to crash down on you...

and despite the fact that i've only had 4 hours of sleep...

today has been wonderful.

I breezed through my first two classes and dominated a test in the third.

I actually got some a decent homestyle meal at lunch with my roommate.

My homework was all low maintenance, so I got to work with Supernatural episodes playing in the background.

After a classmate interview for a friend's senior thesis, I went to the baseball game with a couple roommates. The weather was absolutely perfect for sitting at the diamond and enjoying the game.

Then we decided that since we already had a car with us, we would hit up Bdubs for dinner. It was amazing!

Then we came back and played volleyball on our dorm's front lawn until the sun went down.

After a relaxing shower, and some overdue blogging, I am just about ready for bed. Lack of sleep sure has caught up to me.

So, I'm mellowing out to some Sara Bareilles and finishing up a few things before heading off to dreamland.

Not the way I want to B

So I was checking out my grades earlier today, and I noticed that I'm averaging B's in just about all of them.

Don't get me wrong, B's aren't bad, I just feel like I could be doing better. I used to get A's all the time, but learned that it wasn't always going to happen.

Maybe I'm just being too hard on myself. Besides, I do have 20 hours of internship per week with 19 hours of class. And I've been sick a few times. It's not wonder that all my effort isn't getting put into everything.

I'm just going to try to kick it into high gear for these last five weeks and work (and hope) for the best!

Just add this to my bucket list

My geography class was actually pretty interesting on Friday.

Or should I say, Africa is pretty interesting.

The most intriguing part so far?

The fact that during the right time of the year, you can go right to the edge of Victoria Falls, the largest waterfalls in the world.

That's right.

In the water, at the edge.

They call this part of it Devil's Pool.

And there is a natural barrier where the water falls over the edge of the falls in this certain spot.

Would it be scary?

Ridiculously so.

But how cool would that be?!

'It's Friday, Friday'

I've literally been waiting all week to post about this song.

Just take a peek, and I'll explain...

So, this is Rebecca Black.

She is a mere 13 years old.

And a few days ago, her name was trending on Twitter.

Now I know why.

These were my immediate thoughts:

1. Her auto-tuned voice is annoying.

2. No one is ever that straightforward with lyrics.

3. If you're 13, how can your friends drive.

4. Just pick a damn seat in the car.

5. I learned my days of the week in preschool, thanks.

6. At her age, you shouldn't be 'getting down' at any time.

7. Why would anyone let themselves be internationally embarrassed like this? 

Ever?!

Nonetheless, the lyrics will stick in your head.

And that's annoying for such a terrible song.

So don't forget...

OMGlee!

So last night, I actually got to watch Glee live because I didn't have to work, and oh my was I happy!

The episode was so good.

The couple people have been rooting for finally got together! [Kurt & Blaine]
And I have to applaud Darren Criss, a straight man, in being comfortable playing a homosexual in this role. From what I know about this kid outside of Glee, he is such a good, down-to-earth guy. And extremely talented! [Did you know he wrote the music for A Very Potter Musical and A Very Potter Sequel, among other Team Starkid productions?]

Anyways, I digress.

I was so impressed with Glee's original songs they wrote. They fit the group well!
